What is an ERN?

An ERN or ERA, also called an Electronic Remittance Notice/Advice, is a file sent by payers which replicates the data from the paper EOMB. The primary purpose for Providers to download these ERN files is to “Auto-Post” cash (as opposed to manually entering checks).

However, the ERN can and should be used for MUCH more in the reimbursement process. For instance, with RemitDATA’s Reimbursement PRO™, the ERN can be used to recreate patient-specific EOBs on demand.
